According to Yonhap news, North Korea is in dire need for food supply. It has already asked for aid to China, the U.S., and South Korean private organizations. Due to the toughened UN sanctions, NK has been suffering a severe economic crisis. Lee Ho-Nam, a North Korean official who met with the representatives of a South Korean private humanitarian organization, said that they are "in a really difficult situation, as to force [them] to cede Wee-Hwa-Do and Hwang-Gum-Pyung to China."South Korean and the American governments, however, agree in that provision of aid to North Korea could undermine the internal changes that have been taking place within the Hermit State. Officially, South Korean government will not provide aid unless the aid distribution process becomes more transparent.
